Boogaloo Stu shares the incredible stories behind his three submissions to the imaginary Queer Museum. Boogaloo Stu is a DJ, producer, maker, designer, artiste, and performer. He is the creator and the life of many of Brighton's best parties and events. In this interview Stu talks about Marilyn, the power of a DIY outfit, and a lifelong fascination with giant phalluses. This HLF-funded Brighton project by QueenSpark Books changed the face of the trans community in our city. We plastered the side of the wall of the pub with photocopies of our faces and all came out to the local community walking past. We projected huge images of our faces onto the side of a church in the busiest part of town. And we found each other, and worked together, and listened to each other’s stories

Some of these stories feature in her books The Lives of Older Lesbians: Sexuality, Identity and the Life Course (2016) and Now You See Me (2018). Nu McAdam (he/they) & Suchi Chatterjee (she/they) present to you ‘Your Lavender Life Part II: Secrets in the Woodwork’ with special guest Jane Traies. Jane Traies (she/her) local writer, researcher, storyteller, film maker, and oral historian has been recording the lives of queer people, uncovering and documenting untold stories. In this session Jane taught us about the fundamentals of Oral History, how to record it, asking the questions, getting consent, and how to navigate conversations about lives that may have remained secret for a long time.
