This is a ring sold as merchandise at CAMP gay bar in Margate, where I work. The ring is a replica of the bars logo, made by SNASH JEWELRY. I wore it to 'The Coast is Queer' Literary festival on Saturday 12 October 2024 and uploaded it at the Queer Heritage South's Community Archiving Workshop.
Dating from the late 1980s, the necklace was brought back from San Fransisco by my coming out buddy David, we were at art school together, in the era when the main symbols for being gay were the pink triangle, and some lesbians used the black triangle too. David visited San Fransisco for the gay scene, and returned with this as a gift, one of the first queer rainbow items.
