We’re going to carry on up the road past Bar Broadway and stop outside the entrance to the Nautilus Lounge. This subterranean venue has quite the history. Up until covid in 2020, it had been known as Subline since it opened in 2012. Not Brighton’s first kink / fetish bar, but definitely a popular one, with an unassuming entrance taking you straight down into the basement bar.  

Back in 1991, the same basement was in use as the club-bar Zanzibar, but with the entrance on St James Street next to Scene 22 (which we’ll talk about on the next stop). It hosted many wild and wonderful nights there, though much more innocent than Subline would later offer! Having said that, when it changed hands in 2004 and the women’s Candy Bar took it over, it wasn’t all squeaky-clean fun as you’ll hear.
